Over the past several months, the Morrisville Alternatives Transit Study team has, among many other tasks, been 1) working on analyzing the existing Smart Shuttle service, 2) listening to the community on its vision for future transit within the Town, and 3) looking at various options that can be a best fit to meet the needs of the community today and in the future.

We are now at a point at which we need to hear from you on the final recommendations. We’ve divided them into two categories: short-term and mid- to long-term ideas. See below for more information on the transit service alternatives the Town is evaluating:

BACKGROUND ON ALTERNATIVE TRANSIT STUDY

Morrisville, North Carolina, like many towns in the southern United States, is growing rapidly. With an estimated population of 32,000 that is expected to keep rising due to the region's booming economy, the Town is working hard to keep up with the increasing demand on it's transportation infrastructure and to offer alternative travel options that go beyond single-occupancy vehicle use.

To address these transportation challenges, Morrisville launched the Morrisville Smart Shuttle (MSS) pilot in 2021. This on-demand service has been providing residents and visitors with a flexible and accessible way to get around town. The Morrisville Smart Shuttle has become a reliable link for helping people move conveniently between transit hubs, local businesses, and other important locations.

With ridership increasing over the past two years, Morrisville is carrying out a study to explore various options for enhancing and expanding its transit services. The aim is to identify the best solutions to meet the community's growing and evolving travel needs. The study is examining the suitability and feasibility of:

· Fixed-route service

· Deviated fixed-route service

· A hybrid service that combines fixed-route and micro-transit options or a combination of micro-transit and other demand-responsive options; and

· The continuation of the current micro-transit model with potential improvements to service capacity and coverage improvements.

The findings from this study will help shape the future of Morrisville's transportation network, ensuring it remains resilient and meets the needs of the community.  As the town continues to thrive, finding innovative and effective transit solutions is essential for supporting its residents and promoting sustainable growth.
